A divorce between Carmelo and La La Anthony could leave hundreds of millions of dollars on the table, according to a report.
The couple, who was married for seven years, reportedly have a prenuptial agreement from before they married in 2010 that would benefit Melo greatly thanks to his $124 million contract with the New York Knicks and other endorsement deals, TMZ reports.
The NBA great is reportedly worth more than $200 million and landed on Forbes’ list of richest athletes at No. 25 back in 2016.
Carmelo, 32, has made money beyond the court thanks to endorsements and collaborations with brands like Nike, Jordan Brand, Foot Locker, IWC, Steiner Sports and Nickelodeon.
La La made a name for herself as an MTV VJ and has recently been working as an actress and producer, starring on series like “Power” and the film “Chi-Raq.”
She also was featured in the films, “Think Like A Man” and “Think Like A Man 2.”
Despite her success, she is raking in notably less than her millionaire hubby. MTV VJs reportedly made $40,000 to $50,000 in the early days, but later got paid “a hell of a lot,” according to the book “I Want My MTV.”
However, it is still unclear La La’s net worth without Carmelo.
A dancer at an NYC gentlemen’s club allegedly believes Melo is the father of her unborn child, according to TMZ, and is asking the basketballer to fork over cash for medical expenses and the cost of raising a child.
Depending on the prenup was written, La La could argue what she deserves if it is determined that Melo cheated.
The 37-year-old TV personality was spotted out in New York on Tuesday without her wedding ring.
Carmelo was also spotted out sans wedding ring, smiling, and declined to comment on the split.
The pair announced they were calling it quits on Monday.
“They have been fighting for about a year,” a source close to the couple told the Daily News. “The marriage has always been a rocky one, so this is no surprise.”
The couple shares a 10-year-old son, Kiyan, who was born three years prior to Melo and La La’s wedding.
